Sourced, not hallucinated: how Specably grounds every answer
AI that invents product details is a liability, not a feature. Here's the design principle that keeps every Specably answer tied to your real content.
By The Specably team
It’s never been easier to generate product copy that sounds right. That’s exactly the problem. A model that fills gaps with confident-sounding guesses will, sooner or later, tell a shopper your jacket is waterproof when it’s only water-resistant. The sale you win today becomes a return tomorrow, and maybe a refund or a chargeback after that.
So we built Specably around one rule: sourced, not hallucinated.
The problem with confident guesses
A general-purpose AI optimizes for a fluent answer, not a true one. Ask it something your content doesn’t cover and it will happily invent a plausible spec. On a marketing page that’s awkward. On a product page that drives a purchase decision, it’s a liability.
Grounding, not generating
Specably doesn’t write from imagination. It retrieves from your catalog and store content first, then composes an answer strictly from what it found. Descriptions, specifications, metafields, size guides, policy pages: that’s the universe an answer can draw from.
If the information isn’t there, Specably doesn’t guess. It says so, or flags the gap for you to fill. A missing answer is recoverable. A confidently wrong one isn’t.
Show your work
Grounding is only believable if it’s visible. Every answer carries a Source chip pointing to the content it came from. It’s the same proof your shoppers see and you can audit. Trust isn’t a tagline; it’s a citation.
A helpful answer tells the shopper what they need. A trustworthy one shows them where it came from.
You stay in control
Specably drafts, you decide. Review, edit, or override anything before it publishes, and your edits always win. And it reads only your catalog and content: never orders, never customers, never personal data.
The result is the information layer shoppers expect, built so you can stand behind every word of it.
